K.R. Kirtikar

K.R. Kirtikar Lieut-Colonel KANOBA RANCHHODDAS KIRTIKAR was born in 1850 and after a brilliant career at school, he spent three years in the Grant Medical College, Bombay. In 1874 he went to England and in 1876 he qualified for medical practice. He was successful at the IMS examination and worked in native Indian regiments. His chief works are his “Poisonous Plants of Bombay Presidency” and along with Major B.D. Basu Indian Medicinal Plants. He was one of the founders of the Bombay Natural History Society and Secretary for its botanical section. He was elected Fellow, 2nd March 1893 and expired due to consumption on the 9th May 1917.
