Md M. Maruf Hossain

Dr. Md M. Maruf Hossain is the Professor of Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. His major achievements over the years was Director (Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Chittagong, Bangladesh); UN/IMO fellow (Global Protection of Marine Environment); Principal Investigator & Project Coordinator (impacts of shipbreaking on fisheries and fishers); National Consultant (Oil & Chemical Pollution) (NOSCOP) (NORAD/IMO); International consultant (Capacity building and enhancement of Fishery, Aquaculture and Biodiversity Conservation, Pollution Control in Bangladesh) (DFID, UK, DelPHE-UK, BCINSPIRE), higher study linkages programs with UK Universities; National consultant, BOPA/SIDA (SWEDMAR); Member, UNEP team for the regional report publication; Member of UN/DOLAS program and the pool of Experts on “Global Reporting and Assessments of the State of the Marine Environment, including Socio-economic Aspects"; Expert member for the 2nd Regular Process (2016-2020) by the UN. He has key research interests in several environmental areas including marine and coastal pollution, ecotoxicology, environmental impact assessment, water quality assessments, marine biodiversity and biosecurity. He has published two books (related to ship breaking impacts, EIA, Tannery Wastes) and 65 peer-reviewed journal papers and technical viii Pollution Risks, Impacts and Management reports. In addition to his Ph.D. training, Prof Hossain has completed a number of other training courses on environment and related issues such as postgraduate training on ‘EIA & its Management’ from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland & AIT, Thailand and on ‘Environmental Dynamics’ from the University Di-Venezia, Italy. Prof Hossain is actively involved with different Environment and Biodiversity group, editorial board and organisations.
