P.K. Srivastav

Dr. P. K. Srivastav, Ph. D. on Cytogenetics of some medicinal and ornamental plants, retired as Scientist-D from Central Silk Board. He was recognized as Mulberry Breeder and expert on cultivation of host plants of non-mulberry silkworms and actively contributed in improvement of Terminalia, Quercus and Morus species, the host plants of tasar, Oak Tasar and Mulberry silkworms. He has vast experience expanding over 39 years in sericulture, tree improvement, cultivation of medicinal plants, biodiversity exploration, their conservation and utilization, organic farming through biofertilizers and vermicomposting technology. He has to his credit 170 research publications on Tephrosia, Clitoria, Lathyrus, Phlox drummondii, Terminalia, Quercus, Lithocarpus and Morus species. He also served as referee in several journals and authored five books viz., Treatise on Teminalias (1998), Inventory and multipurpose use of food plants of Vanya silkworms (2005), Sericulture and Seri-biodiversity (2005), Multipurpose Plants (2009), Inventory of subtropical Mulberry Germplasm (2013) and edited three Proceedings of National Workshop on “Potentials and strategies for sustainable development of Vanya silks in the Himalayan states”, Regional Seminar on “Prospects and  problems of sericulture as an economic enterprise in North-western India” and “Uttar paschim Bharat mein Resham Udyog ki unnatti mein anusandhan evam prasar ki bhumika ” held at Dehradun in 2004, 2006, 2007 respectively.   He organized and participated in more than 25 scientific conferences, seminars and workshops. His more than 15 talks have already been broadcasted by All India Radio, Imphal on environment protection and conservation of bio-diversity.  He is founder President of “Central Silk Board Scientist Association” and was chosen as a Member, Research Advisory Board of the American Bibliographical Institute.
