P.N. Bhat

Prof. (Dr.) P.N. Bhat started his career as a teaching assistant in Animal Breeding along with several post doctoral assignments and visiting professorship in genetics, biotechnology and livestock production systems. He was awarded Ph.D. in ‘Population Genetics’ from the Institute of Population Genetics, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA in 1965. Prof. Bhat was the Project Coordinator (Animal Breeding) at Indian Council of Agriculture Research, New Delhi and subsequently the Head, Division of Animal Genetics at Indian Veterinary Research Institute (I.V.R.I.) in 1971. He was the Founder Director of Central Institute for Research on Goats and became the Vice-Chancellor and Director of Indian Veterinary Research Institute in 1984. He joined as Deputy Director-General (Animal Science) in May, 1992 and Animal Husbandry Commissioner in December, 1992. Prof. P.N. Bhat is a fellow of several National and International Science Academies.
