Dr. S. KARUPPUSAMY obtained his M.Sc. (1996)
degree from Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, and Ph.D. (2003) from
Gandhigram University, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at
Sri Krishnadevaraya University (2004-2008), Anantapur. At present he is working
as Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, The Madura College, Madurai since
2008. He has published more than 130 research papers in nationally and
internationally reputed journals. He is a co-author of Flora of Andhra Pradesh
(Vol.5), Revised Flora of Andhra Pradesh (Vol.3), Flora of Eastern Ghats (Vols
4-7), Orchids of Eastern Ghats (2019), Caralluma (sensu lato) –
Anti-obesity plants (2012), Monograph on Brachystelma and Ceropegia
in India (2020) and Camptothecin – Botany, chemistry and Biotechnology
(2021). He is the recipient of Young Scientist Award 2006 from Indian Botanical
Society and Fellow award from Indian Botanical Society (2013). He is also
recipient of Rolla S Rao award from Indian Association of Angiosperm Taxonomy
(IAAT) (2012) and Fellow of Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy (2012).
He also received a prestigious Prof. Y.S.Murthy gold medal award from Indian
Botanical Society for contribution of Angiosperm Taxonomy in India. He is the
member of Species Survival Commission (IUCN) and member of Western Ghats
Species Specialist Group (2017 – 2020: 2020 – 2025). He is the Principal
Investigator of major research projects funded by UGC, New Delhi; NIF,
Ahmedabad and TBGP – Tamil Nadu Biodiversity Greening Project, Forest
Department of Tamil Nadu. He is the life member of many scientific societies in
India. His research interests in the areas of Angiosperm Taxonomy,
Phytochemistry, Ethnopharmacology, Plant Tissue Culture and Conservation
Biology.
