Dr. V. K. Sharma is Associate professor at Indira Gandhi institute of Development re-search (IGIDR). Bombay, India. he is a gaduate civii engineer with post graduate in environmental engineeringh  from university of Jodhpur, Rajasthan and Ph.D. in environ mental science and engineering from indian institute of Technology, Bombay, india  He has more than eleven years of ex-preince which includes his earlier assign-ments as civil engineer in lrrigation Department and as Lecturer of civil en-gineering  in the Board of  Technical Educa-tion, Government of Rajasthan. He had been a full time faculty member at Assistant profes-sor level in the Department of civil Engineer-ing, Faculty of Engineering, University of Jodhpur, from 1982 to 1991 Dr. Sharma has taught various environmental science and engineering subjects to under-graduate and Postgraduate students He has thorough understanding of laboratory, field and outher experimental work on solid waste managment water, teratment in-dustrial waste treatment, air and noise pollu-tion, and radiation hazards. He has completed some important research projects sponsored by united Nations Development programme and Forest , Govt. of  India  and air pollution. In addition to local environmental issues, his present areas of interest include various global issues in environment related with greenhouse gases and global warming ozone depletion, accounting of environ- mental resources, environmental economics, environmental policy etc.
