Dr. Vidya Bhushan Awasthi, Former Associate Professor of Zoology, J.N.V. University, Jodhpur, born on 7th August, 1940 in the village Sumerpur, Distt. Unnao, UP and received his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D., Degrees from the University of Gorakhpur. He worked on Insect Neuroendocrinology and published 70 comprehensive research papers and review articles in the prestigious Journals of international repute and three chapters in different books. He is internationally recognized as an Eminent Insect Endocrinologist. He is also the author of four other books viz: Introduction to General and Applied Entomology, Insect Neuroendocrines, Principles of Insect Behaviour and Agricultural Insect Pests and their Control. He is on the panel of experts and referee of a number of prestigious Journals. A number of students have received Ph.D. Degrees under his supervision and guidance. The work of Dr. Awasthi on light and electron microscopy of insect endocrines has been cited favourably and extensively since 1970 in a large number of books published by Academic Press, Pergamon Press, Chapman Hall, Springer-Verlag, Plenum Press, Cambridge University Press, etc. written or edited by F. Engelmann; W. Bargmann B. Scharrer; S.J. Counce C.H. Waddington; V.J.A. Novak; M. Raabe; J.E. Treherne, M.J. Berridge V.B. Wigglesworth; G.A. Kerkut and L.I. Gilbert etc. Prof. Walter Weber remarked on one of his reviews on Neurohaemal Organs I have read it with great interest and I am sure that your article fills a gap in modern literature on Neuroendocrinology . Likewise, the work of Dr. Awasthi on insect endocrines has been greatly appreciated by Prof. V.B. Wigglesworth, Prof. B. Scharrer, Dr. M. Raabe, Prof. M. Gersch, Prof. H. Mislin, Prof. B. Johnson, Prof. A. Girardie. Prof. L.I. Gilbert, Prof. Y. Kono, Prof. H.E. Hinton, and many other pro-minent pioneer Insect Physiologists and Endocrinologists.
