Ghanshyambhai
Patel, a farmer’s son born on 8th August, 1950, obtained Doctorate
degree from I. A. R. I., New Delhi and specialized in the field of Pest and
Disease Management. He started his career with a Moto of “Farmers First”
as Senior Research Assistant at N. M. College of Agriculture, Navsari on 25th
April, 1975, taught various courses of Entomology at UG/PG Classes in Agriculture,
Horticulture and Forestry Colleges and conducted Research for pest management of Cotton, Mango, Sapota, Sugarcane, Paddy,
Coconut, Ber, Sorghum, Mustard, Cow pea, Groundnut, Cabbage, Okra, Cumin,
Pigeon pea, Castor etc. He has at his credit 35 years of UG/ PG teaching
and research experience, guided 9 P. G. students for M. Sc. (Agri.) and 8 for
Ph. D. degree, published more than 65 Research papers, 100 popular articles, 7
Practical manuals, 15 technical bulletins. Also looked after C. P. College of
Agriculture as Dean, and acted as Founder
Dean of College of Horticulture and College of Basic Science and Humanities
at SDAU, Sardarkrushinagar. He is famous among farmers for the “Seed Treatment Technology against White
grubs in Groundnut and pearl millet” he was awarded Sardar Patel Award and Hari Om Ashram
sponsored Prof. J. P. Trivedi Award and six other awards/prizes apart
from Development of IPM package for
cotton, Groundnut, Castor and Pigeon pea. His leadership was
appreciated by Government of Gujarat for “Successful combat operations against the Desert Locust invasion”
in 1993. After retirement in August, 2012, he is offering his services as Agriculture Consultant to Sir Ratan Tata
Trust, Mumbai, Pidilite Industries Ltd., Mumbai, National Innovation
Foundation, IIM, Ahmedabad.
