John Prasanth Jacob,
Ph. D is a Scientist with the Indian Council of Forestry Research and
Education, Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Government of
India. He has thirty years of experience as a Forest Entomologist. His interest
is management of forest insect pests based on the principles of insect-plant
interactions. He has worked on the host plant resistance to key pests of
economically important plantation species like teak, casuarina and eucalyptus. He
has worked extensively on the invasive gall wasp in eucalypts and has played a
major role in its successful classical biological control in India for which he
was awarded by National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources (ICAR),
Bangalore. He has obtained a patent for volatile lure for trapping eucalyptus
gall wasp. He has conducted three national level Workshops on Eucalyptus gall
wasp. He has authored the following books:- (1) Foresters Manual on Nursery Pests and Their Management (2) Insect Pests
of Medicinal Plants and Their Management (3) Introduction to Field Oriented
Forest Entomology and (4) Insect Pests of Trees Outside Forests and Their
Management. He has executed
various research projects funded by National Forestry Research Programme,
Department of Science and Technology and National Medicinal Plant Board.
