Dr. M.C. Kalita is currently working as Reader in the Dept. of Biotechnology, Gauhati University, Guwahati. He was awarded the National Biotechnology Associateship (1996-1997) by the Dept. of Biotechnology, Govt. of India to conduct research on DNA fingerprinting in Indian mustard in NRC on Plant Biotechnology, IARI, New Delhi. He has completed three research projects on Azolla biofertilizer, plant based biopoesticides and mosquito control and medicinal plant tissue culture funded by UGC and DBT. He has also authored a book on Biodiversity of Assam: status, strategy and action plan for conservation, and published over 60 research papers, articles and book chapters in both national and international publications. He availed a number of advanced biotechnology training courses and participated in several national and international conferences. Dr. Kalita is actively associated with Assam Science Society, a prestigious voluntary organization working for the last over five decades for the cause of science popularization among the masses. He also served the Society as General Secretary (1999-2001).
